Applesauce
Hey everyone! I am so sorry I have taken so long between posts. My real life got in the way of my cooking blog gosh darn it! I am so excited cause I logged back on to find I can upload all my pictures at once now!!! That is going to make my blog posting so much easier!
OK onto the actual food lmao! This is another one of those things my hubby had no idea people made from scratch...(I'm starting to wonder what he ate as a child...) I love love love applesauce hot off the stove. It goes great along side (or on top of if you are into that sort of thing) just about any pork item. My husband is particularly fond of chicken fried pork chops. I also love it on toast the next day. However you like it, applesauce is damn tasty.
Squeeze half a lemon into a bowl, make sure you scoop out all the seeds.
Peel whatever apples you want to use. I like to mix it up and use a few different kinds. This time it was braeburn and granny smith.
Slice up your apples.
Dice them.
Toss them into the bowl with the lemon juice.
Make sure you stir them around, this will keep your apples from getting brown and gross looking.
When you have about 8 cups of diced apples you can stop dicing.
Throw the apples into a pot
Pour in 2 cups of water
1 tbs Cinnamon
2 tbs butter. You can leave this out if you are worried about the fat, but it adds a depth of flavor that is awesometastic.
1/2 tsp sea salt.
1 1/2 cups sugar.
Stir
Simmer on medium for about an hour. Check often to make sure you don't burn it.
Your house should be starting to smell amazing, all appley and yummy.
It'll darken up from the cinnamon.
Get out a potato masher or a couple forks if you don't have one and mash up the big chunks.
Keep mashing until it looks like applesauce.
OMG this looks so good.
Pour some into a bowl while its still hot...
Make sure you don't burn yourself shoving it into your face. Its lovely, a little tart and Cinnamony, and the 2 different apples adds a little extra oomph to it. Make this today or you will regret it forever! Well maybe not, but you should still make it.
